Course Formats
Why do you provide some courses in the Portable Document Format (PDF)?

There are two very important reasons:-
    1. For mobility
    2. To keep the cost of the course as low as possible for the learner.

With most distance learning packages you are tied to learning on a pc. In the pdf format you can read the course material directly from you pc, and also print off sections you want to learn while you are travelling to work or anywhere where you will not have access to a pc.

By using this format we don`t have to pay for expensive printing and production, the learner does not have to wait for days for delivery they can download a course in this format straight away. There are also no postage or delivery costs. this helps to keep the cost of the courses down to a more affordable level for the learner.
Why are courses that are in the PDF not downloadable as one complete course instead of being broken up into sections or modules

There are a number of reasons we have decided to do this. The main one being, that we have to take into consideration the likley internet connection speeds that our learners may have. Some of the courses are extremely large, and all together they are hundreds of pages long. This would mean that it would take a long time to download the complete course. As we know, this can be a frustrating experiance if some of our internet connections are precarious.

Another very good reason is that we want our learners to move through the courses in a structured way. No matter what anyone believes, it does not help if learners skip ahead into areas of a course they will not be able to understand, until they have learned the information contained in previous sections. After each section or module, we require that a test is passed before a student can move forward. This ensures that the learner has understood the material. Then, when they do move on to the next section they are far more likely to understand the new material that they are trying to learn.
